The Heartlander
this is the annual birthday msg for this blog.

from 2004 valentines day (roughly), this blog has been dead and alive. 5 years has passed... looking back at some of my ancient entries, I laughed at my own naivety and stupidity then. I wonder what I might say of my adventures 5 years from now.

people change. so rest assured I am very different from what I was years ago and I'm glad that this blog managed to capture those glorifying and the embarrassing moments. I hope diaryland will last forever, or at least till the end of my lifetime so I can one day download the entire journal and just read it on my deathbed or something.

see? I told you, my real age is 35. I think I'm lying to myself, I may be indeed 55...

finally I have a tuition assignment. but it's not exactly my ideal assignment. it's in yiochukang, 45mins bus away, or 30mins car away. and I'm teaching sec 3. >_< actually there's another sec 1 girl in the same family that needs tutor but the mom wanted a girl tutor for her. oh well, her choice, I was intending to just teach both together but at the same rate.

I have to go brush up on my a-maths and physics/chemistry. forgotten so many things in these 2 years. really quite apprehensive about my first assignment, I'm very certain I would give a bad impression since I've forgotten so much. well, I'm prepared for anything.

time to hit the books and geekstogo.

Happy Friday the 13th!

This is one of my favourite day of the year! But this year's quite boring. It used to be a day when I would laugh about all the stupid things human superstition can come up with.

Today has been pretty lucky so far.

Got attached to SCS engineers for switch configuration. Interesting stuff.

Zhao-ed from office at 11am. Thought will be a quick lunch before chionging down to nee soon camp. What happened was he drove us for lunch at ikea tampines and talked cock with his friends until 1pm... good life sia haha. oh ya, and he treated. shiok man. At first was "sian lar... Ikea food damn ex" then it became "wow, free lunch."

Switch configuration was fun. Initially I don't know what the hell they're worrying about, kept worrying about the fibre routes and kept mentioning a dozen block numbers. In the end ahlong came to the rescue and saved the newer SCS guy.

I knew the 6224 command line better than them :P So they let me do the configurations after a while as I think I was embarrassing them a bit by reminding them the commands after they unsuccessfully tried a few times. yay, funness. long time since I've configured an alcatel switch.

I loved today's work because it allowed me to be flexible. Telnet to the remote end, then could not disconnect. Somehow the session got stuck at the remote end. So I learn from ahlong, reset the switch! muahahaha.

on top of that, when they told me to take down the serial number for the fibre modules, I learn from ahlong, pull the whole module out and read! yayness. network down wooo! haha.

then best part, zhao at 3.30pm :P ahlong drove me home, right to my doorstep. so I was home at 4pm.

went to swim. the sun was gooooooood. Today was my lucky day, some school team was training there. And it was a girl's school team. bwahahaha. Couldn't see well without my specs, but I saw CHIJ something. yay pervert me!

so this was one of the RARE times (I think the only time) when there were more みずぎ (AHELLLOTMORE) than trunks in the pool. happiness.

Will you be my Valentine tomorrow? If so, drop me an SMS. Each SMS cost 50cents. Terms and conditions apply. All rights reserved. The llama is on the hill.

i've got my ass handed to me in upperclassman.

totally humbled and owned. What I've learnt in underclassman were practically all obsolete. still stuck in practice log 1. By tomorrow I should pass that. going to slack and waste time in the office doing practice log, fufufu.

initially I thought I'll breeze thourgh everything like underclassman. I even started on practice log 2 before practice log 1 was assessed. practice log 1 ended up as a 20+ post wild goose chase, on my part of course. Most of my underclassman hardly got to 10 posts. die lar...

in case you're wondering what I'm talking about, go www.geekstogo.com.

and i've figured out that since i can't find any jap subtitles, i'll just read lyrics for the OPs and EDs haha. printed out オレンジ and 疾走.

first exercise, figure out how to read the unknown kanjis. next, write them into my little exercise book. then attempt to translate. hah. sounds fun.

I don't know when I'll actually do that :P

played dota with my bro today. damn long time since I've touched that game. used Puck the Faerie Dragon. I'm lovin' it. of course against bots...

I'm so glad to know english and chinese and a bit of japanese.

English opens up the big internet world and its goodies. This goes without saying.

Chinese opens up the world of songs and video piracy.

Japanese opens up the world of high quality por... *ahem* arts and culture.

I have another song stuck in my head. I'm sick of only being able to sing 五千マイル走って、息を切らして… so I went to google for the lyrics. and guess what, I found it on a china website.

lol

so here it is.
=====

Let's return those bitter days

=====

wanted to write something in jap but think i'll just be a phail.

by the way, that's the ED for Ouran High Host Club.

back to practice log 1 (#^.^#)

upperclassman geeku is quite daunting. suddenly greeted by 9 sub forums instead of the usual 2 underclassman ones.

anyway, News Flash!

Ho Ching steps down

Saw this as I walked past the plasma tv in scs. Surprise surprise. This is real exciting. I wonder what's in store for Temasek holdings. It's pretty screwed up these few years and I don't think the outgoing CEO is to blame as no one would be able to foresee such a disaster. Will be stalking temasek for a few weeks now.

another News Flash!

Another STI ETF?

So DBS is starting another ETF, one that is already being actively traded and managed by State Streets. So far, I've only managed to google out 2 major differences. DBS management fee is 0.28% while streettrack is 0.3%. DBS STI ETF trades at 100 unit lots, Streettracks trade at 1000 unit lots. I wonder if this would mean higher liquidity for the DBS ETF. However, streettrack ETF has been around since 2002 and many people have their money in it. Going to wait and see if people will be moving their money over to the DBS one. Doesn't make sense at all...

I feel damn old. When I bought wanton mee today, the cashier asked if I studied in the JC across the road. I look 17, but I'm actually 35.

didn't order drinks at the kopitiam cos the vending machines at scs were much cheaper. I'm a bloody cheapskate, typical of a 35-year-old uncle with no money. at scs, I found out that I had no coins left so went to "extort" some from my colleague. bought my drink, chose the cheapest one. It was a subconscious decision. I've only realized what I bought when my friend told me that I'm damn "uncle" for buying an "uncle" drink. Then I realized he was referring to the Jiajia liang teh i was holding. He expected me to get coke or something.

As I forgot to bring my bottle today (yah, I'm a little boy), I relied on the machines for water. brought in a cup of coffee and kenna the "uncle" comments again.

worked until damn tired, surfed some net. the guy next to me started showing me videos of slam dunks of various NBA players. I had to feign interest. It was difficult.

back on my computer, I was on SGX reading up on the new DBS STI ETF and occasionally updating the STI index, expecting it to break 1700 for the weekend. Instead it went up 10pts -_-. anyway, my friend was surprised that I was staring at news instead of surfing soccernet or something.

earlier he told me about something he heard about PM Lee's son, the one currently serving NS. He couldn't even recall the name of our PM, I had to complete it for him as he was going "Lee... Lee... Lee... something".

That triggered me to show him the Ho Ching article. He asked me who's she. -_- After some explanation and exclamation of disbelief, he defended himself.

"I don't bother about such things. It's like me talking to you about basketball."

At that moment, I lost some faith in the youths of Singapore.

Then I realized, what the heck, he's the same age as me!

He reminded me of a platoon mate back in 113sqn... who cares nothing about world events (or national events for that matter) and ask things like "har? There was a typhoon in Myanmar?"

I'm trying not to stereotype but they were both from polytechnics.

This sparked an interesting thought. Maybe I should conduct an experiment!

I will walk around some polytechnics and invite people for a short survey. First I'll ask them what's their favourite sport, whether they are a fan of any sporting events. If they do, I'll ask them to list 5 players and if they know, their field positions. If they can name more, even better.

Then I'll punch them in the face with the next question, name me 5 ministers in the Singapore parliament and their portfolio. If you're having difficulties, I allow Minister Mentor, Senior Minister and Prime Minister, IF you know who they are...

I'll repeat the experiment in Junior colleges, universities and secondary schools. I should get pretty interesting results.

King of Stereotypes.

but I'm just too lazy to carry it out. Just pay me royalties if you intend to conduct this in your uni/poly/jc project or something.

sometimes, I think some stereotypes are true...

yay, just passed pratice log 6 and promoting to upperclassman. yay.

my yays are so common they don't sound very happy at all. right? yay.

anyway, I'm uploading the ear worm that I can't get rid of these few weeks. I wonder if imeem accepts flac format, it's going to replace the jipaban song which has been there ever since I've put music on the blog.

exciting, my upperclassman journey starts now. yay.
